The Mayday Project Meets With IDSA President, Dr. Stephen Calderwood
March 20, 2015
A message regarding our meeting with Dr. Calderwood that took place March 20, 2015:
"As most know, today we met with IDSA President, Dr. Calderwood.
We are happy to say that he was receptive and respectful with what we had to say. Dr. Calderwood agrees that so much is still unknown about this disease, that the current testing methods are unreliable, and new diagnostics are needed. He also agreed that it is under reported and a large scale national epidemic that needs much more research and attention.
Unfortunately, we requested he ask congress for funding towards research and he refused. We also asked that he consider a Lyme patient for the patient advocate position on their advisory committee instead of the current 'patient advocate'. This was not achieved either.
After discussing the lack of balance and amount of bias in the Guidelines Review Panel, he continued to ask that we direct our questions to the public forum they have open. He essentially declared we must wait for the review to be completed to see if there will be any changes to the guidelines.
We informed him of our plan of action, which will be released in our press release and a national news story with the Associated Press (AP).
More details to follow soon.
More than ever we need you to stand up and attend the protest this year. The media will be out in force and they need to see the numbers of those that suffer."
